The Ka-32A11BC helicopter, belonging to the fire station of Jiande City, and the Mi-26TS helicopter, manufactured by the Russian Helicopters holding company, supplied to China in the summer of 2016, extinguished a large forest fire near the city of Jiande (Zhejiang Province, China). Thanks to the use of aviation equipment, the inflammation was eliminated within a few hours.
The fire occurred 60 kilometers from a settlement in a mountainous area, which made it difficult to be accessed by ground equipment. Mi-26TS and Ka-32A11BC helicopters quickly flew to the place and dropped more than 250 tons of water. Within a few hours the fire was completely extinguished. Since the fire was extinguished promptly, nearby settlements were not affected.
"We are pleased that our machines has proved itself in an emergency situation, China has traditionally shown interest in Russian helicopters for firefighting missions and, as practice shows, this choice is confirmed by real exploitation," said the Deputy General Director for marketing and business development of the "Russian Helicopters" holding Alexander Shcherbinin.
Mi-26TS (certified according to the flight regulations of China) is the world's largest load-lifting helicopter. It is able to transport cargo inside the cabin or on an external suspension with a total weight of up to 20 tons. The helicopter repeatedly proved its effectiveness in the suppression of the largest fires in the PRC. When emergency situations are eliminated, the main task of Mi-26TS is the delivery of specialized equipment and fire units to the site of fire disaster, as well as discharging water to the burning forest massif.
Ka-32A11BC is a middle multipurpose helicopter with a coaxial rotor scheme, designed to perform complicated firefighting, search and rescue missions, evacuation of patients and injured, as well as patrolling and supporting operations of special services. Ka-32A11BC Fire-fighting modification has more than 40 options of firefighting equipment - including systems such as Bambi-Bucket and Simplex, water cannons for horizontal firefighting.
There are currently 4 Mi-26TS and 15 Ka-32A11BC at the service of the Ministry of Forestry of China. They are on standby during the whole year and successfully participate in extinguishing forest fires.
Operators around the world highly appreciate Russian civil utility helicopters. They are used not only to extinguish fires, but also to rescue and evacuate victims, to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters and emergency situations, to protect law and order and to transport people and goods in extreme weather conditions (ultrahigh and extremely low temperatures, squally wind, water). In the coming year, China plans to put several Russian-made helicopters to work at the 2020 Olympics, which will be held in Beijing.
Russian helicopters deserved the high level of trust due to a number of competitive advantages over rivals in its class. First of all, it requires less operational, training and maintenance expenses.
